PREPARING TO RECEIVE A MYSTICAL EXPERIENCE
According to a Pew Center research poll, 49% of Americans have had a mystical experience but were afraid to talk about it. What were they afraid of? Perhaps they worried that the experience was of their own imagination, or that people would think they were going crazy. Maybe their fear lies in the fact that there isn’t much support for this spiritual experience in our culture today!
At the Transformation Center for Spirituality Education in Marin, California, we honor, support, and guide individuals who have intimately encountered the Source of life in a direct and transcendent connection. This sacred union is available to everyone!
How do we recognize and identify this gift? It begins with a feeling of emptiness, a lack of joy during meditation or our prayer life. Mystics have called this the “Dark Night of the Soul,” There is a desire, a longing for something more, something greater than the self. The Spirit gives us this desire and the will to connect with something greater.
Be aware that there is nothing wrong with you! This is not your imagination! Be ready to move to a deeper level of oneness on your spiritual journey. Your spiritual breakdown will lead to a breakthrough if you are able to trust this process.
It is important at this time to read the stories of mystics to discover the process that led to their mystical encounter. Some examples are books by Hermann Hesse, Teresa of Avila, Francis of Assisi, and Frank Tuoti. Believing in this spiritual process is the key to being open to receiving the gift of a mystical experience. Be ready to welcome the gift when it comes to you. You may have to be patient and wait for this gift since the timing is out of your control. This is not something you can make happen. You are the receiver of the gift and that means that you need to be in receptive mode. This connection will be orchestrated by Source. It is not something intellectual. It is an experience of the heart. It will come to you!
You can trust that Source desires to connect directly with you! Why? Because Source created you in the image of Source and sees itself in you. This union, this sacred gift comes with amazing benefits! (Check out the Benefits of Being a Mystic on my website home page.)
The world needs more mystics, people who will feel the direct love of Source and channel it into the midst of ordinary life and beyond.
